NEWS: AC Media Interview
AC: What do you think is the biggest draw card to the college?
Graham Slater: 'Being able to offer certificate courses (Cert III or IV) in Fitness and Sports Coaching has definitely drawn people and especially to be able to train with the Shaolin Monks. I think students recognize the course benefits in as much as it enables them to get into a healthy lifestyle and an exciting career.
AC: Are the college courses government recognized?
Graham Slater: Several of our courses are government funded, like our Martial Arts and Fitness Traineeships which gives students awesome skills.
AC: What if someone is already studying a martial art like Taekwondo, Kickboxing / Muay Thai or some other form of kung fu like wing chun can they still train at the college?
Graham Slater: We are very happy to accept students from others schools whether it be just for a short time or if they decide to transfer to this college. It's not uncommon for Martial artists to cross train in different styles and fitness regimes because it validates and increases their skills.
AC: Can students train in more than one art at the college?
Graham Slater: Our students can attend classes in any of the disciplines as part of their membership giving them the flexibility to practice a hard Kung Fu or Karate class on one day or enjoy a relaxing Tai Chi or Meditation class on another day.
AC: You are from a Japanese Martial Art background so how did you find training in the Chinese arts?
Graham Slater: Well I love it. I find it helps me to become more fluid allowing me to become faster and more effective with my techniques. It has opened my mind to the many possibilities of what martial arts can offer even after more than 30 years of study I find I am still learning.
AC: What is next for the college?
Graham Slater: New Monks, you see we have this awesome relationship with the Shaolin Temple in China where they send out Warrior Monks to teach our students the real art of Kung Fu, Tai Chi and the healing arts. We will no doubt be doing more public performance with our demo team, train more students and perhaps look at opening more branches.
AC: Thank you Graham for you time
Graham Slater: My pleasure!
